Visit the Majestic Bangalore Palace
Step into royal grandeur at the Bangalore Palace, an architectural gem inspired by England’s Windsor Castle. Wander through its grand halls, stained-glass windows, and lavish interiors that echo tales of the Wodeyar dynasty.
In addition to carvings, painting, and photographs of viceroys, maharajas, and Bengaluru elite, the palace boasts of amusement park, known as Fun World, right inside the palace complex. The palace grounds also host concerts and cultural events throughout the year.
Located just over 5 km from the city center, it is accessible by public transport, taxi, or rideshare. It is open daily from 10 a.m.to 5:30 p.m. but entry may be restricted on event days so check the calendar before you head to Bangalore Palace.

Enjoy Bangalore’s Gardens & Parks
Breathe in fresh air and admire nature’s beauty at Lalbagh Botanical Garden, home to over 1,800 plant species. Its glasshouse, modeled after London’s Crystal Palace, comes alive during the annual flower shows. This lush escape is perfect for morning walks or peaceful reflection.
Lalbagh Botanical Garden is located about 7 km from the city center and can be reached by the Bengaluru metro rail network, or taxi and rideshares.
Right in the city center, Cubbon Park offers a green oasis amid Bangalore’s bustling streets. Locals come here to jog, picnic, or read under ancient trees. The park also surrounds beautiful colonial-era buildings like the State Central Library and the High Court of Karnataka. You will also find a children’s play area, toy train, and aquarium.
Cubbon Park is located just 3 km from the city center. Depending upon where you are staying, this park might be quite easily accessed on foot. But if you want to save your steps for the park, then grab a taxi or rideshare.

Marvel at Vidhana Soudha
Bangalore’s most iconic landmark, Vidhana Soudha, houses the state legislature of Karnataka. The stunning neo-Dravidian architecture and grand staircase make it one of the best spots for photos—especially when illuminated at night.
The building is worth a visit just to walk around and marvel at the exterior. But if you wish to book a guided walking tour, be sure to do so in advance. Spots are limited and fill quickly. The tour takes you through key areas within the complex, including the Foundation Stone, Grand Seps, and even a glimpse of the legislative assembly. Vidhana Soudha is located right in the heart of the city!

Shop & Dine
For a taste of modern Bangalore, head to MG Road and Brigade Road. These lively streets overflow with cafés, boutiques, and bookstores. Spend an afternoon shopping for silk, savoring South Indian filter coffee, or sampling fusion cuisine at trendy restaurants. No matter what part of the city you stay in, you will find a shopping haven nearby. But here are a couple to keep in mind if you are looking for something special.
If luxury shopping and fine dining call your name, visit UB City, Bangalore’s upscale lifestyle destination. Browse international brands, enjoy rooftop cocktails with skyline views, or relax at a spa after a day of exploring.
From crispy dosas and piping-hot idlis to spicy chaat and fresh coconut water, Bangalore’s street food scene is irresistible. Visit VV Puram Food Street to sample authentic local flavors late into the night.
Bangalore is India’s craft beer capital. The city’s pubs and live music venues make its nightlife one of the best in the country.

Visit ISKCON Temple
The ISKCON Temple in Banglore combines spirituality and grandeur. It attracts visitors with its impressive hilltop location, spiritual atmosphere, and striking architecture. Its gleaming white structure houses beautifully adorned deities of Krishna and Radha. Devotees and tourists climb the steps to reach the temple complex, where they admire the beautifully decorated shrines and listen to devotional chants filling the air.
Inside, intricate carvings, vibrant murals, and illuminated altars create a sense of peace and devotion. The temple also offers panoramic views of the city, making the visit a blend of spiritual reflection and scenic beauty. Don’t miss the prasadam (blessed food) served to visitors.
The temple is about 7 km away. It is accessible by metro, but my favorite mode of transport for this distance in Bangalore is taxi.

Discover the Art at National Gallery of Modern Art
Art lovers will appreciate the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), where colonial-era architecture meets contemporary creativity. The gallery invites visitors to explore India’s modern and contemporary artistic expressions. Housed in a restored heritage building and surrounded by peaceful gardens, the gallery displays paintings, sculptures, photographs, and installations by renowned Indian artists.
As you move through the well-lit exhibition spaces, you will encounter diverse styles and themes that reflect social change, creativity, and innovation. The calm atmosphere and thoughtfully curated exhibits make the gallery a rewarding cultural experience.
The gallery is only 2 km from city center. Its location near Cubbon Park and Vidhana Soudha make it a great site to combine with a visit to those top Bangalore attractions.

Visit the Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace
Step into history at Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace. This 18th century is constructed entirely of teak. Its pillars, arches, and murals reflect Indo-Islamic design and the legacy of the “Tiger of Mysore.” The palace walls feature hand-painted floral designs and the original golden throne. Ironically, this throne was never used by Tipu Sultan, as it was reserved for a victorious moment against the British.
A visit to the palace is a small but fascinating glimpse into Bangalore’s royal past. The palace sits in the city’s central area, just a 15-minute walk from the KR Market Metro Station. Consider a short rickshaw ride if you want to save your steps!

Take a Day Trip to Mysore
A day trip to Mysore (Mysuru) from Bangalore offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and relaxed sightseeing. Leave early in the morning to travel by road or train, enjoying a smooth journey through scenic countryside. Upon reaching Mysore, head straight to the magnificent Mysore Palace, to admire its grand domes, ornate interiors, and beautifully decorated halls. The palace’s blend of Indo-Saracenic architecture and royal heritage creates a striking first impression.
After exploring the palace, stop at Chamundi Hills, to check out the Chamundeshwari Temple and take in panoramic views of the city below. The calm atmosphere and spiritual significance of the site add depth to the experience. Enjoy lunch in the city to sample local dishes like Mysore masala dosa or traditional South Indian meals.
Then spend the afternoon exploring attractions such as St. Philomena’s Church, the bustling Devaraja Market, or the peaceful Brindavan Gardens near the Krishnarajasagara Dam. Consider this private tour so you have the flexibility to ask your guide to focus on your top sites.

Getting Around Bangalore
Walking around Bangalore can be pleasant in some areas and challenging in others. It really depends on where and when you’re walking. In neighborhoods like Indiranagar, MG Road, Brigade Road, Jayanagar, and parts of Koramangala, walking is fairly easy. These areas usually have wider footpaths, plenty of shops and cafes, and a steady flow of people, which makes walking feel comfortable. Early mornings and evenings are especially nice, with parks, street food stalls, and a lively atmosphere.
However, in many parts of the city, footpaths can be uneven, crowded, or missing altogether, and traffic doesn’t always prioritize pedestrians, so extra caution is needed. Side-walks are often cracked, broken, or missing chunks. I just never knew if that wonderful sidewalk would end in a giant puddle. And, it seemed that there were too many people – and an occasional sacred cow – using said sidewalk to feel comfortable navigating it alone.

Keep in mind, I was mostly by myself in Bangalore. So, it was a challenge to navigate where I was going, the swarms of people around me, and watch for holes in the pavement all at the same time. Walking felt much more pleasant when I had someone with me. Everything is better – and safer – with a good travel buddy.
I found it much easier to rely on taxi or rickshaw in Bangalore. Rickshaws and taxis were fairly easy to use. When I did have difficulty, it was easy to go to the nearest restaurant or hotel and they were always pleased to assist me.
Another great option is to do a Bangalore in a Day Private Guided Tour. Tours in Bangalore are incredibly affordable and private tours enable you to call the shots on what you see and do.
