Clothing

When packing for a Caribbean cruise, consider the warm tropical climate. Pack lightweight, breathable clothing to keep you cool and comfortable.

Bring a variety of casual tops, including t-shirts and tank tops. These are perfect for exploring the ports of call and relaxing on the ship.

Pack a few pairs of shorts and/or skirts. Or better yet, skorts! These are versatile and ideal for excursions, lounging by the pool, or casual dinners.

Don’t forget to pack your swimsuit! You’ll likely spend a lot of time at the pool or on the beautiful Caribbean beaches. I always pack two for a cruise. That way one is always dry and I have a safeguard in case one rips or tears.

Bring a couple casual dresses or outfits for evening dinners and entertainment on the ship. These can also be nice and breezy on hot days in port.

Even in the Caribbean, evenings can be a bit cooler. And the air conditioning can be quite strong in the dining rooms. Pack a light jacket or sweater for those breezier moments.

Footwear

Footwear is crucial when packing for a Caribbean cruise. Ensure you’re comfortable while exploring the ports and enjoying onboard activities with the right footwear.

Pack comfortable flip-flops and sandals for strolling around the ship and walking on the beach. Investing in a sturdy and supportive sandal is a good idea as you will wear them almost everywhere.

Bring a good pair of sneakers for shore excursions or active activities like hiking. These are also handy if you plan to hit the gym and work off those all-you-can-eat calories!

If you plan to dress up for formal evenings or events on the ship, pack dress clothes and a pair of comfortable dress shoes.

Formal and dressy attire is completely optional on most cruises but some folks enjoy a good excuse to dress up. If you want to don an evening gown and tux then go for it! Or if you are more like me, then bring a necklace,  black slacks, and heels to “dress up” your casual attire.

Accessories

Protect yourself from the sun with a sun hat and sunglasses.

Pack a beach bag to carry your essentials for shore excursions and beach days. I like this waterproof daypack because it is easy to carry on a hike and keeps everything dry.

Considering water activities, a waterproof phone pouch is handy to protect your phone.

Scarves and cover-ups can provide protection from the sun and even add a touch of style to your outfits.

Toiletries and Health Essentials

Caribbean cruises often provide basic toiletries, but it’s good to have your preferred items with you. Personal hygiene items and health essentials are crucial for a comfortable journey. Check out my posts on Packing the Perfect Toiletry Kit and Packing a Great Medicine Kit for a complete list of items. But these are your Caribbean specific essentials.

Protect your skin from the strong Caribbean sun by bringing sunscreen with a high SPF. I love Sun Bum products!

Depending on the destination, insect repellent can be a lifesaver during shore excursions. I hate the smell and stickiness of most insect repellents but these patches are great!

Ensure you have enough of your prescription medications for the duration of the cruise, plus a few extra days.

If you’re prone to motion sickness, bring appropriate medication to ensure a comfortable cruise experience. I also like these wrist bands for motion sickness on shore excursions. In fact, I never leave home without them!

Electronics and Gadgets

Stay connected and capture memories with the right electronics.

Bring chargers for your electronics and a power bank to keep your devices charged during the cruise. And don’t forget your charging cables! Check out my post on your Travel Electronics Kit so you don’t forget anything important!

Don’t forget your camera, lenses, memory cards, and a sturdy camera bag to capture the stunning scenery. Or simply carry an iPhone 14 Pro or higher to capture fabulous iPhone photographs.  Check out this post for a few Tips and Tricks on iPhone Photography.

Bring books or an E-Reader to enjoy during leisure time and relaxation on the ship.

Cruise Documents and Other Essentials

Make sure you have all the necessary paperwork and other essential items to ensure a smooth journey.

Don’t forget your passport and check if you need a visa for any of the ports you’ll be visiting. Keep all your cruise-related documents, including boarding passes and tickets, organized and easily accessible with your passport.

It’s always wise to have travel insurance to cover any unforeseen circumstances during your trip. Bring the paperwork with contact information with you in case of emergency.

Miscellaneous Items

Lastly, consider these additional items that can enhance your cruise experience.

Stay hydrated by bringing a reusable water bottle to keep you refreshed during your adventures.

If you plan to snorkel at any of the ports, consider bringing your own snorkeling gear for a more personalized experience. I can’t wear contacts, so I wouldn’t snorkel without my optical lens snorkel mask.

Pack a small collapsible tote bag for carrying souvenirs and purchases during excursions. Or plan to bring them home in your waterproof day pack.

Include a compact, travel-friendly umbrella to stay dry during unexpected rain showers.
