As native Texans, we couldn’t stop at just 7 places to visit! Especially since #8 is the city where we both lived and worked together for several years! Corpus Christi, Texas, isn’t just a dot on the Gulf of Mexico—it’s a coastal escape packed with adventure, beauty, and unique culture. Ready to dive in?
Soak in the Sun and Surf
From the urban North Beach to the expansive Padre Island National Seashore, Corpus Christi delivers sand and surf to suit every taste. If you are staying in town, you will find the beaches along Corpus Christi Bay offer everything you need in a convenient location. But just across the causeway you will find wonderful Gulf of Mexico beach options on “The Island” and leading toward Port Aransas.
Turn left after the causeway to check out Mustang Island State Park for camping, water sports, and fishing. A little further down you will find the beach of Port Aransas conveniently located to this little surfing town. You will find almost as many golf carts as you do cars roaming the streets and sandy shores in the summer months. “Port A” is the perfect place to enjoy a beach vacation! Keep in mind, you might need a special permit to park at the beach. The cost is low, but be sure to check out how to get your permit and the fees for various beaches before you go!
You can also head straight over the causeway and down “The Island” to check out various beach access points. Venture all the way down and you will find the Padre Island National Seashore. This is the longest stretch of undeveloped barrier island in the world! It’s the perfect spot for birdwatching, camping, or just enjoying the untouched beauty of the Gulf Coast.
Looking for a Spring Break destination? Corpus Christi beaches offer everything you will find at your more famous destinations such as South Padre (which is located 3-hours south) but with a little less wild college party and a bit more family friendly.
Immerse Yourself in History & Culture
Step back in time with a visit to the USS Lexington Museum. Known as the “Blue Ghost,” this World War II-era aircraft carrier turned museum offers an incredible glimpse into naval history. Wander the flight deck, explore interactive exhibits, and even test your skills in the flight simulator.
